Domain contacts

Domain contacts are the owner details of a domain and make it possible to have different owners of domains on the same Simply.com account.

A domain contact is the owner information registered on a domain at the registry. With domain contacts, domains on the same Simply.com account can have different owners, e.g. when an account manages domains for several companies or individuals.

The domain contact only determines who is registered as the owner of the domain. Invoices, communication and access to the control panel still follow the account information.

Why are there already domain contacts on the account?

Domain contacts have been created automatically based on the existing information, so all domains have a domain contact.

Why are there several domain contacts with the same information?

Some registries assign each owner an ID, also called a handle. If the account's domains are registered under different IDs at the registry, each ID has its own domain contact, even if the name and address are the same. In this case, the description on the domain contact shows which ID it belongs to.

The domain contacts can be merged by deleting one and moving its domains to the other. Note that the domains may then get a different owner ID at the registry.

How is a domain assigned a domain contact?

This can be done in two ways:

  • Under Domain contacts, select Assign domain next to the domain contact, and then select the domain.
  • Under the administration of the individual domain, select Change domain contact.

If there are domains on the account without a domain contact, they are shown together under Domain contacts, where they can all be assigned a selected domain contact at once.

What happens when a domain is assigned a different domain contact?

The owner information is updated immediately at the registry. Depending on the domain's extension, it may be a change of ownership that the registry requires to be confirmed, e.g. via email to the new owner. If the registry rejects the change, the previous owner is retained.

Can the information on a domain contact be changed?

Yes. Changes to a domain contact are sent to the registry for all the domains the domain contact is assigned to. At some registries, a change of email address must be confirmed before it takes effect.

How is a domain contact deleted?

Under Domain contacts, select Delete domain contact. If the domain contact is assigned to domains, another domain contact must be selected for the domains to be moved to before the domain contact can be deleted. The last domain contact with domains therefore cannot be deleted. First create a new domain contact, and move the domains to it.
