The 503 error is often caused by insufficient memory or heavy plugins – resolve it by optimising, restarting PHP or upgrading your hosting plan.
HTTP 503 error can occur when a webhosting plan has used all the memory that is available in the selected product, or when a script times out.
You can view the amount of memory used from the “Website” menu and under “Resource utilisation” in the control panel, where you can also read more about how to reduce and analyse usage by, for example, optimising your site with cache, as well as pinpoint the problem by examining the log files and, among other things, checking for attacks.
We sometimes see that high resource utilisation can be caused by attacks, excessive traffic or heavy plugins installed in various CMS systems, with backup plugins often being problematic.
Often the cause of the error code is simply that your site is outgrowing its current hosting plan with us, and you can therefore upgrade to a larger plan with more resources to resolve the problem.
You can upgrade your product to a larger plan, with more memory, thereby raising the resource ceiling. Upgrade your product via our Control Panel.
A temporary fix for the problem can be to restart all PHP processes/threads on the webhosting. This is done via the “Website” menu item.
