Mail limits and policies

Overview of limits and policies for incoming and outgoing email at Simply.com, which protect against abuse and are rarely triggered during normal use.

To ensure optimal performance of our mail system, we have a number of upper limits that senders and recipients must comply with.
The limits follow common mail policies and generally protect against misuse of our mail services. These are not limits you will hit during normal use. We also monitor and adjust the limits on an ongoing basis.

Incoming mail

  • 60 incoming emails per minute, per recipient
  • 3600 incoming emails per hour, per recipient
  • 86400 incoming emails per day, per recipient
  • 200 incoming emails per minute, per recipient domain
  • 200 incoming emails per minute, per sender domain
  • 300 incoming emails per minute, per sending server
  • No limit on the size of emails or attachments
  • No limit on the number of recipients per email
  • 20 simultaneous POP3/IMAP connections per IP address, per email account
  • An incoming email cannot exceed 500MB
  • An email cannot exceed 1GB

If a limit is exceeded, the email will be rejected with a temperror so that the sending server automatically tries again later.

Outgoing mail (smtp.simply.com)

  • No limit on the size of emails or attachments
  • Requires login with username and password
  • Sending can only take place from the domain you are logged in as
  • Cannot be used by Simply.com web servers
  • Must NOT be used for sending mass mailings, newsletters, cold mailing, or automated email marketing
  • Emails are rejected if more than 300 outgoing emails are sent per minute, per sender
  • Emails are rejected if more than 300 outgoing emails are sent per minute, per sender domain
  • Emails are rejected if more than 300 outgoing emails are sent per minute, per user login
  • Emails are rejected if more than 1000 outgoing emails are sent per hour, per user login
  • An email account can be suspended automatically if any of the above are exceeded, or if more than 300 emails - or emails to more than 300 recipients - are sent within two hours

Outgoing mail (websmtp.simply.com)

  • Requires login with username and password
  • Sending can only take place from the domain you are logged in as
  • Can only be used from Simply.com web servers
  • No limit on the number of emails
  • No limit on the size of emails or attachments
  • No limit on the number of recipients per email
