HTTP 429/454 Blocked

When you encounter this error code, the web server performs an automatic security check of your browser before allowing you to proceed. The check exists to protect the website against bots and automated attacks that can overload the server, harvest content, or attempt to exploit vulnerabilities.

In most cases, the check happens in the background, and a regular browser with JavaScript and cookies enabled will get through in a few seconds without you even noticing. Once the check is passed, you can freely navigate the website for a while before it might be renewed.

You might see the "Checking your browser" page for various reasons, such as:

HTTP 429

• The website is currently receiving an unusually high number of requests or is outright under attack.
• The visit is coming from an IP address that has a bad "reputation" and is known for attacks. You can look up the IP address at www.simply.com/rbl/.

HTTP 454

• You are using (or pretending to be) a very old browser that lacks the features a modern web is built on.

If you are stuck in the check, you can try reloading the page, updating your browser, or visiting the page from another device or network connection.

¶Services whitelisted

Known 3rd-party services like Googlebot, Bing, Jetpack, PayPal, Facebook, ManageWP, etc., are whitelisted in our security filter.

Generally, we do not recommend whitelisting security services, as our security filter is exactly that—a security element—and removing it to scan for security therefore doesn't make much sense.
