About DNS records

Manage all DNS records (A, AAAA, MX, CNAME, TXT, NS, SRV) including TTL wait time, dynamic DNS and templates directly in the Simply.com control panel.

You can manage all DNS for your domain through our DNS administration, which you can find in our Control Panel.

A record

An A record is used to translate a host name to an IP address. The destination will therefore always have to be an IP address.

AAAA record

An AAAA record is used to translate a host name to an IPv6 address, in the same way an A record is used for IPv4 addresses.

MX record

An MX record determines which mail servers a domain receives mail from.
The destination must always be a host name, so if you want to point to a specific IP you must first create an A record that points to the IP and then point the MX record to that A record.
A priority can be set; records with the lowest priority are tried first.

CNAME record

A CNAME record is an alias for one host name to another. The destination must therefore always be a host name. A CNAME record is not the same as a URL redirect.
CNAME records must always stand alone, i.e., you must not have other records with the same name as your CNAME record. For the same reason, CNAME records only work on subdomains.

TXT record

A TXT record can store comments for a DNS zone. Often used for SPF records.

NS record

An NS record tells which name servers can handle the domain. NS records can only be set on subdomains.

SRV record

SRV records can, for example, be used to specify SIP traffic or are used by applications to access resources directly.

DNS changes (TTL)

When you make changes in DNS, the change itself is applied immediately on our name server. Due to the way DNS and TTL work on individual records, it can take a few hours before the change propagates to all machines worldwide.

DDNS (Dynamic DNS)

It is fully possible to set up DDNS through our API with a single API call. See more at https://www.simply.com/docs/api/

Standard DNS templates (DNS configuration)

Use our standard DNS configurations to quickly set up DNS mappings to popular services such as wix.com, Squarespace, Shopify, Facebook, Google and many more.
You will find our DNS configurations in our DNS Administration. After you have applied a DNS configuration, there can, as with all DNS changes, be a few hours before the changes take effect. Always verify that your DNS zone is correct after using a DNS configuration.

DNS templates

DNS Templates make it possible to create your own DNS templates and activate them on selected domains. DNS records from the template are automatically added on top of a domain's records. This way you can easily manage DNS for hundreds of domains with just a single click.
